Currency
The
Unit Arab Emirates currency is called the Dirham (AED or Dhs). 100 fils make a
Dirham. The Dirham is pegged to United States Dollar (USD) so it follows the
movement in the USD. The recent weakness in the USD against the currencies
across the world especially the British Pound and Euro has seen Dirham
depreciate.
The
falling Dirham has seen inflation in Dubai as most of the goods are imported as
well as increasing salaries and wages so as match salaries drawn by the largely
expatriate community back home.
The
positive impact being Dubai becoming a cheaper tourist destination as well as
an attractive real estate investment option.
